The ACRA VIC Branch invites you to take part in their webinar on 11 March 2021 which focuses on Building Defects.  We’ve brought Dr Nicole Johnston back after her very successful ACRA NSW seminar.

We’ll be talking about defects from cracking to waterproofing substrate requirements and corrective measures from both a contractor’s and consultant’s point of view. What lessons have we learned and what improvements in the industry are being made.

Your speakers for this evening seminar are:

Dr Nicole Johnston from Deakin University, Dr Johnston will be speaking on suggested examinations of building defects in residential multi-owned properties [legal perspective].

Dr Johnston recently held this talk for ACRA NSW, and not only did she present to a packed room but had people discussing her Building Defects Research report for weeks after this seminar.

Byron Landeryou the director of Waterproof Awareness and a committee member of AIW, Byron will be presenting on the seriousness of waterproofing in all classes of building. Byron has over 20 years in the construction industry as both a wall & floor tiler/waterproofing contractor and is a former Melbourne polytechnic trade school teacher, course designer and resource developer in Certificate III in construction waterproofing.

Byron’s company is dedicated to improving the Waterproofing Industry linking education with the industry, contractors with builders and providing general awareness about the many scenarios that can cause membrane failure. Having taught waterproofing over the last 7 years to over 1000 students and developing the course based on recent industry trends and issues, we have a solid knowledge base to inform industry and help try to minimize the risk of failure to all parties involved. We are passionate about improving the industry, we understand that it must be a team effort to help change, educate and improve the industry and look forward to assisting in whatever way we can.

Johana Fragozo from Arup is the Senior Diagnostics and Remedial Engineer | Buildings Melbourne.

Johana works in Arup’s Melbourne office within the Vic/SA façades team, specialising in durability, diagnostics, and remedial engineering. With 17 years of industry experience, she has assisted in the delivery of projects across sectors including commercial, health, rail, and infrastructure.

Johana has acted as the lead consultant for a significant number of façade repair and refurbishment projects around Australia. Her understanding of the deterioration, repair, and protection of structures was developed by undertaking structural condition assessments, developing remedial options, overseeing the repair processes, and researching different types of cementitious and composite materials.

Johana will cover Common building façade defects and their causes.
